Start with workflow, not tools
Small businesses do not need to begin with model names. They should begin with repeated tasks: customer replies, product descriptions, invoice summaries, job descriptions, sales follow-ups, internal SOPs, and training notes.
The best first AI project is one where the owner can compare before and after: time saved, fewer mistakes, better clarity, faster response, or more consistent output.
Where AI can help immediately
AI can help draft WhatsApp replies, rewrite product listings, summarise vendor documents, create checklists, generate training material, translate basic messages, and prepare interview questions.
For regulated or sensitive work, keep humans in control. AI should assist decisions, not silently replace accountability.
Risks MSMEs should not ignore
The main risks are privacy, wrong outputs, over-automation, fake expertise, and vendor lock-in. Do not paste confidential customer or financial data into tools unless the terms and data handling are acceptable.
Create simple rules: what employees may paste, what must be checked, which outputs require owner approval, and which tasks should never be automated.
